Summer Cold (or allergies?)

For the past several days I’ve been battling headaches. My whole head, including my sinuses, has just felt full of pressure. I must be dealing with a summer cold or allergies. I feel a little better, but it’s really been taking me out of commission and that’s not so helpful when I have things I need to be doing.

We enjoyed playing in the water this morning. It rained on us a few sprinkles for about a minute, but the weather was great besides that. I worked hard to keep Isaac up on the way home, but 3 miles from home, he fell asleep. We decided to just put him in bed without lunch when we got home. He kept sleeping and had a good nap! I guess all those fruit snacks filled him up enough 😉

Tomorrow will be a busy day. We have church, after church VBS, and another event at our church in the evening. Summer is zipping by.Here comes August!

Running again (sort of)

I’m so thankful that the pain in my knee seems to be gone! I’m taking it very slow and working through the couch to 5k program again. I’m accelerating it a little because I think I’m just going to run every other day instead of 3 times a week. So, some weeks that will be 3 times and some weeks it will be 4. It’s been hot, but I have a water bottle and it’s really not that bad since I’m only running for 90 seconds at a time right now!

If I’m feeling good, I may try to do the nickle dickle race in Waconia in September, but I’m not training for anything right now. It’s just in the back of my mind as a possibility.

We spent some time at the park this afternoon and I was able to get some good photos:

I think we’re going to do a beach morning tomorrow! With Nathan along it’s always more fun! I do less calling out, “Don’t go out so far!”

A Good Night For Ice Cream

IMG_7198It seemed like a good night to go to Dairy Queen. Ethan had his first ever Blizzard. I let him get a mini one since he announced that he wanted what I usually have. I switched things up a little for myself though and only had a cone. Nathan has his “usual”: a peanut buster parfait.  Nathan and I ended up sharing our treats with Isaac. Nathan has always been the “sharer”, when it comes to Isaac, but Isaac wasn’t satisfied when Nathan’s ice cream was gone. I think it might be time to get Isaac his own. He eats a lot!

Tomorrow is Friday! Yeah!

Nature Girl

Nature Girl
Audrey really wanted to bring her nature journal outside and do some drawing

Today was our science day for school. We were going to spend more time outside, but the mosquitoes were awful. I’ve never experiences that many at once. Eeeeek.  I quickly gathered everyone and ran back inside. Hopefully, the city will spray again soon and we’ll see the number go down. Before we went in, I took this cute photo of Audrey. She actually went out again later after I sprayed her with bug spray.

It’s been a quiet day. Isaac went down for his nap a little later than he usually does. The big kids have been playing. Audrey is getting the dolls ready for wedding time and Ethan is pretending to nap on her bed until the big event starts. All the dolls are lined up in the hallway outside of Audrey’s room.

I’ll be sure to update you if anything interesting happens!

All Mondays Should Be Like This!

It’s Monday and I didn’t want today to feel like a gloomy Monday. I wanted to do something to really enjoy the day. After doing a few tasks around the house, I told Ethan and I Audrey that we were going to do something. I didn’t tell them what it was. I just let them follow me to Audrey’s room where I pulled out Audrey’s swimming suit. Then I went to the boys’ room and grabbed their suits. Immediately, Audrey was exclaiming, “Are we going to swimming lessons?” “Are we going to the beach?” Even Isaac was excited.

So, we spent the morning at the beach and the weather was perfect. I’ve never seen my kids happier than when they are playing in the water. It was an added bonus that we ran into some people we knew from our church. We shared beach toys and they helped watch the boys when I took Audrey to the bathroom (so much easier than having to take all three when they would rather be playing).

We did school this afternoon and wrapped up the day with swimming lessons. Ethan has lessons at the same time as the Baker kids. Audrey looks forward to seeing “Erica’s sister” when we go. Poor Audrey was a little confused when I explained that is was Tim’s sister, not Erica’s. I got to hear all about the Warrior Dash that Kristen did. Crazy! I can’t even imagine a race that had enough people that had starting times all day for 2 days.

I got out and ran a tiny bit tonight. It was mostly walking since I’m trying to be patient with increasing running. I’m basically starting the Couch to 5k over again. I know that I have the endurance to run farther than I am now, it’s just the physical part I want to be careful about.

How about a photo? This morning, all three waving to Nathan as he left:

Saturday Fun

I had a day off!

Today I spent the day scrapbooking with some friends. I finished  7 pages for Audrey’s book and I’m happy to announce that I’m only one year “behind”. That doesn’t feel like that much. It was nice to be able to do something creative.

I got home and found out that the family was at the park. So, I went and joined them. We played for awhile and then it was time to come home and do baths. Everyone is squeaky clean and snug in their beds now.

Typical Evening Around Here

Ethan, Audrey, Isaac and Nathan are playing with the bristle blocks.

They’ve made them into guns and they are shooting at Nathan.

Each time Nathan gets shot, he has to fall over. To revive him the kids have to kiss him. Sometimes all of the kids have to kiss him for it to work and sometimes I have to kiss him (that one works every time!).

I’m folding laundry during the excitement and Isaac comes and shoots me. I slump to the ground and wait for someone to revive me. No one seems to notice Mom motionless on the floor!

A few minutes later, I’m rescued and resume my folding.
