Trip To The Park

The weather was gorgeous yesterday. We had plans to take a day off of school this week. So, when I saw the forecast, I decided to take half of the day off yesterday and the other half today. They got their work done quickly and we headed off to the park.

Spring Is Here!

It’s springtime and I’m so happy to welcome the new season.

This morning, Nathan mowed the yard. There is now the smell of freshly mowed grass and onion in the air. Moving to TN is going to forever have me associating the smell of onion with spring. The onion grass only smells this strong at the beginning of the season. It will soon pass.

I spent time raking out the dead leaves and growth from the flower bed this week. I had neglected doing that at the end of last summer. It’s nice to clear away the dead stuff and see the green new growth poking out of the ground. I planted a few gladiolus bulbs today that will add some more color for this summer. I plan to plant a few more in a couple of weeks.

Our hammock broke last fall 🙁 Sadness!! So, I’m dreaming of a replacement. Do I want a hammock or would I rather have a swing?

This is what happens when you don’t have shoulders on the side of the road and there is a drop off on each side. Yikes! This photo shows the entrance to our neighborhood right behind it.

Something Awesome

As we were getting ready to sign up Ethan for tutorial for next year, my friend, Katherine, encouraged me to sign up Audrey. I was hesitant because I was a little afraid of it being confusing or frustrating for her. Katherine assured me that she knew the kids in the class that Audrey would join and that Audrey would do just fine with them.

So, we registered Audrey and Ethan when it came time. My remaining hesitation was that it costs a big chunk of money. It’s nothing compared to private schooling, but it still meant being creative to figure out a way to afford it. I had been wondering if I could work off some of the cost by helping at the tutorial, but I wasn’t sure how I could do that while having Isaac with me. Paying someone to watch Isaac would have defeated the whole purpose.

And then this week happened! I got a call from Katherine telling me that the director of the tutorial was sad that there was only one boy in next year’s 1st grade class. Katherine mentioned that our family had a Kindergarten boy this year, but told the director it would be an issue financially. Then the director asked Katherine if she could use a helper for her classes next year (Katherine teaches at the tutorial). When it was all said and done, I agreed to be Katherine’s helper, I signed up Isaac, and I’m getting 50% off tuition cost!

So, in summary, I will be paying less tuition for 3 kids than I thought I was going to have to pay for just 2 kids. I only have to pay for 1.5 kids tuition 🙂 I still have to pay the class fees and for books, but I’m still coming out ahead and I don’t have to worry about Isaac because he will be in class. Actually, he will be in class with me for his first 2 hours of the day.

Isaac will be taking Galloping the Globe, PE and Music, Oozing  Bubbling. . . Experiments, Lego WeDo, and 3D Art.

It’s so cool when we get to see God provide– and sometimes He provides more than we even ask!

Quick Trip to Louisville

That trip to Louisville did happen afterall. We decided not to leave on Friday because the church leadership was concerned that the roads hadn’t all cleared between here and there, but the people in charge of the tournament we were going to told us that we could still participate if we showed up on Saturday and did the tournament rounds on Sunday morning.

We had already decided to do a fun Plan B activity on Friday night here to make up for missing. We all went swimming at the Rec Center. While we were getting ready to leave, we were able to tell the kids that we were leaving in the morning! We were already packed. So, when morning came, we were ready to pull out of Franklin by 8:00am.

The drive there went quickly and the roads were great. Well, there were potholes everywhere, but no snow. We did see several cars along the side of the road that were still covered in  snow. And when we drove back yesterday, it was very apparent why the interstate near Elizabethtown was stopped. It is so hilly. There is an incline that goes forever. Slow traffic in ice and snow would have made that impossible. But that was southbound and we didn’t have to worry about that road until 2 days after the snow stopped and the weathers warmed.

We got to Louisville at noon, joined the tournament group at Hometown Buffet for lunch, went to Renaissance Fun park (arcade games, laser tag, mini golf, go-carts), participated in their kids and family worship night at South East Christian Church and on Sunday, we did the tournament. We came in at 5th place in our bracket.

Here’s a photo from breakfast yesterday. We were so tired. Louisville is in the Easter Time Zone and it was the first day of Daylight Saving Time. 7:00 breakfast felt like 5:00.

Studying before our rounds.

Celebrating 5th place! We won one of our matches by 5 points by getting the very last question correct.

The Nashville Snowdome Has Been Busted!

It has been over 4 years since this area has received over an inch of snow! Everyone calls it the “snowdome”.  For some reason, every storm system changes when it gets here or it has by-passed us. Not this time! There is a little slush and ice, but it’s mostly snow.

Nathan rode to work with a team member. They went slow and many people were not on the roads.

It looks like it “drifted” a little there. That’s the biggest drift I think we’ll see 🙂
